In The Nursery

At Deniseīs Parrot Place, we hand raise all of the baby birds we sell. This in itself is very unique because, to the best of my knowledge, most bird or pet stores that deal in birds simply buy birds from various sources and sell them for profit. The most common supplier of birds to pet stores, and pet supermarkets, is called a "Bird Broker." We do not use bird brokers. We own many of our breeder pairs and enjoy the wonder of successfully breeding and raising baby parrots. Some of our breeder pairs are owned by personal friends of mine, who handle the breeding process and provide the baby birds to me to finish the hand raising process. Either way, we raise all our own birds! To be sure, this is not a lucrative profession. It is a labor of love, and a very rewarding one at that.

The 2010 Breeding Season is coming to an end for most of the larger species of parrots. Fortunately, our shop has a wide variety of weaned, and still hand-feeding babies available for sale. This year has been our best year for producing a large variety of parrots in several seasons. Please see "In Our Shop" for the most current list of our birds available. Sometimes I cannot keep up with the bird list for my web site, and the sales in our shop, so when in doubt, feel free to call us regarding any particular species you are looking for.

COCKATOOS: For 2010 we have two baby Umbrellas, a Goffins, a Rosebreasted, and a Bare Eyed Cockatoo. We often have Moluccans, Lesser Sulphers, Greater Sulphers, Citrons, and possibly Slenderbills and DuCorps. If you are interested in Cockatoos, it is best to give us a call and talk about what may be available, as well as all the effort required to home one of these special birds. They can be VERY demanding of human attention! Because of this, we often limit our amount of Cockatoos to the number of orders we have at any given time. These are not birds that should sit in a shop and grow older waiting for adoption.

AFRICAN GREYS: We are well known for our wonderful African Grey babies! This year, both our Congo African Greys and Timneh African Greys have produced many beautiful babies, which we love raising and training to be perfect pets. We love our greys, and pride ourselves in loving, nurturing and raising the finest Greys available. See "In Our Shop" for the latest list of Congos and Timnehs available.

POICEPHALUS: We are very proud to announce that we have two rare and beautiful Cape Parrots (also a member of the Poicephalus family). This is one bird you must see and observe to truly appreciate. Not only are they very unusual, and rare to the pet bird industry, but they are a wonderful mid-sized African species that is loving, talks, are colorful, and have interesting personalities.

CONURES: We began the 2010 season with quite a few Green Cheek Conure mutations, specifically Cinnamon Green Cheeks, Pineapple Green Cheeks, and Yellow Sided Green Cheeks, but they are selling fast. We are still hopeful for Dusky, Blue Crown, Black Capped, and other conure babies as the season is drawing to a close. We do take orders to reserve babies.

MACAWS: In 2010, we have produced many of our favorite Macaw species, i.e. Greenwings, Blue & Golds, Military, Severe, Red-Fronted, Yellow Collared and of course the Hahnīs mini macaws. Because of our limited space, we tend to raise just the Macaws that are ordered ahead of the season, however we try to keep Blue & Golds and Greenwings available as often as we can. Call us if you are interested in any of the Macaw species. If you place an order, or even tell us what Macaw you are interested in (especially in the Fall), it helps me know how many and which baby Macaws to have available for the next season.

Last year we were unable to produce any Hyacinth babies. We are hopeful for Hyacinths this year, but cannot promise, as Mother Nature seems to make that choice for us. We have great references from everyone who has ever purchased one of our Hyacinth babies, and recommend that you place an order if you want to purchase one of these incredible birds! If you want to see the best Hyacinths available, come visit our shop and see my pet Hyacinth, ZOE! She is a great example of the quality of our birds -- and she is rapidly becoming quite a spoiled little girl by all the attention she receives at my shop!

PIONUS: For the 2010 Season we have only hatched out one Blue Headed Pionus to date. Normally we anticipate having White Capped and Bronze Winged Pionus. Pionus tend to go to nest later in Spring, or early Summer, so check back with us as time goes by.

CAIQUES: We had hoped that the 2010 season would bring us White Bellied and Black Headed Caiques, but have no babies in the nursery at this time. We do still have some White Bellied Caiques available from the last season, priced at 20% OFF! Placing an order is always your best bet to get one of our babies.

ALEXANDRINES: No babies were produced in 2010, but our past Alexandrines have been beautiful and well loved by their adoptive parents. Best to place an order for these, though, as they usually only lay one clutch per year.

HAWKHEADS: We usually take orders for these rare and exceptional birds. We generally have very few babies available, so reserving a baby is always advised.

LITTLE GUYS: Our Cockatiels are producing wonderful babies right now. We usually have Lutinos, Cinnamons, Pearls & Pieds, and also Whitefaced Cockatiels. Call the shop at any time to see what we are expecting to hatch, and when! Also, our Lovebirds and Parrotlets are nesting right now, and some babies are available.

AND MORE BABIES... since our selection is so varied, and our breeding situation changes daily, we suggest you give us a call at (206) 232-8115 if you do not see exactly the species you are looking for listed above. Thanks.
